Carl's 1st Blog

Hello Unaffiliated Students,

Listen to Carl's Blog

Welcome to campusgreen.com.  My name's Carl Jackson, and I'm one of the three founding members of campusgreen.com.  This is my first blog on campusgreen and I hope to update it every week so you can get a better feel for what it's all about.

My two business partners are Ralph, a software developer that built the site, and Sean, a banker and visionary...and also the $$$!

We started campusgreen.com because we felt that college students might want something a bit more serious minded than the popular social networking sites out there.

As you approach graduation you're going to need to get a job, buy a car, rent an apartment etc.  You're also going to be faced with a lot of financial issues like 401k's, taxes and stuff like that.  In our Money and Career sections, we offer a lot of great articles on these topics.

Since the college generation understands the internet and is very familiar with setting up a profile, we thought we'd offer a place where you can create a mini-resume for employers to search.  That's the "My Green Page" below.

I know, I know...my picture is horrible.  I plan to change it soon.

A "My Green Page" is automatically generated when you create your account.  Just click on "Manage My Profile" at the left to see yours.  It's probably not filled out very well.  To fill it out, just click on "manage" and "edit" and add your picture and fill out the information.  You can also download you're resume as a link or article for employers, alumni, and your friends to read and comment on.

We made campusgreen.com a password protected site so that you would feel comfortable posting info.  But we gave you even more control by letting you decide who sees your profile. It can be anyone, only Unaffiliated users, or just people that you designate in your Greendex (our version of "friends").

But campusgreen.com isn't just about money and career stuff.  Along the top we offer national news articles for students.  You can read articles on arts & entertainment, politics, tech etc.  Check out the "Humor" tab under A&E...my brother-in-law and I update that every day...it's called LaughFish.  There are also daily cartoons, and a weekly crossword and sudoku game that you can print out.

Along the bottom lefthand column there are news channels just for Unaffiliated.  If you're interested in submitting local campus news article, send me an email at carl.jackson@campusgreen.com.

But we're not done yet.  Every student on campus can create a blog just like this one, and include a video.  When you create an article you get a mini HTML editor.  It's pretty flexible.

Oh, I almost forgot.  You can create your own forum and add it to your blog by checking the forum box.  If you want to tell me how bad my blog is, or ask me a question, just click on "comments" below.

You can also search for any forum that's been created by clicking on the FORUM tab at the top.

Well, that's all for now.  I need to go for a run.  Next week I'll add a video.

catch you later...carl

join the campusgreen.com network

campusgreen.com is the first true news site for college internet communities, and we offer a turn key solution for college administrators, professors, student journalists and entreprenuers, and student newspapers.

The community can be as big or small as you want it to be, from just your school to all the schools in the campusgreen.com network.

And campusgreen.com can be customized with your own banner and school colors, so it feels like it's part of your campus.

We provide a full spectrum of national news on a daily basis covering arts & entertainment, politics, technology, travel and more.

We also offer indepth financial and career articles written specifically for college students.

You can create your own local campus channels and provide your own school content remotely at any time night or day.

Most importantly, campusgreen.com builds community. campusgreen.com is a password protected site, so each student can feel comfortable creating his or her own profile, downloading a resume and picture, and posting daily blogs and video.

Our confidentiality screens allow students to decide who will see their profile, from just their friends to anyone.

We also offer forums so that students can comment on articles, or maybe students want to start forums on topics that are important to them.  No problem. With campusgreen.com it's easy.

And everything in campusgreen.com is SEARCHABLE whether it be articles, forums, or other users.

Every student on campus can become a cub reporter or opinion writer who adds to the campus dialogue.

Students can also post on campus classifieds and use an array of financial tools to help them make important decisions like getting a credit card or buying vs. leasing a car, or setting up a student budget.

If you want to learn more about how you or your school can join the campusgreen.com network, please contact Carl Jackson at carl.jackson@campusgreen.com.
